Nova Post informs customers about the introduction of 20% VAT on international parcels in Moldova

Starting November 1, 2026, new tax rules for online purchases from abroad will come into effect in the Republic of Moldova. Under the new rules, parcels with an intrinsic value of up to €150 will be subject to VAT at a rate of 20%.
The new rules apply to B2C shipments originating outside Moldova, regardless of the country of origin, including shipments from European Union countries, when the recipients are individuals who are not engaged in business activities.
Which parcels will be subject to VAT?
VAT at a rate of 20% will be charged on parcels with an intrinsic value of up to €150 ordered from foreign online platforms. Please note that the new rules apply to parcels arriving in the Republic of Moldova on or after November 1, 2026, regardless of when they were ordered or paid for.
How will VAT be paid?
There are two payment options:
- VAT is included in the order price. If the online platform collects VAT at the time of purchase, you pay it directly on the platform. No additional VAT payment is required when you receive the parcel.
- VAT is paid upon receipt of the parcel. If the online platform does not collect VAT at the time of purchase, you will need to pay it when receiving the parcel.
Payment methods depend on the selected delivery method:
- At a Nova Post branch — in cash, by bank card, or online via the Nova Post app or personal account.
- Upon courier delivery — in cash, by bank card, or online via the Nova Post app or personal account.
- When collecting a parcel from a parcel locker — online via the Nova Post app or personal account before collecting the parcel.
Please note: VAT paid is non-refundable. Starting January 1, 2027, an additional fee of 12 lei will also be charged for each parcel
